Title: Casual Maintenance Support Worker

Hours: Casual / On-call (hours scheduled as needed)

Wage: $18–$24/hour

Nature of Position: 

We’re looking for a reliable and hands-on Casual Maintenance Support Worker to provide indoor and outdoor maintenance and general labour support across all KFS properties. This role includes routine upkeep, repairs, cleaning, and seasonal tasks to help keep buildings, grounds, and equipment safe, functional, and well maintained. The position responds to maintenance needs as they arise and supports day-to-day facility operations.

This role plays an important part in maintaining safe, well-kept spaces for staff, clients, and visitors, and contributes to the overall upkeep and readiness of all facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks, including lawn care, raking, pruning, weeding, debris removal, pressure washing, and general grounds upkeep
  • Assist with indoor maintenance such as basic repairs, simple plumbing fixes (e.g., leaky faucets and toilets), replacing light bulbs, and repairing or replacing door handles, locks, and hinges
  • Help maintain clean and organized maintenance and storage areas to support overall facility readiness
  • Perform general labour tasks including lifting and moving materials, transporting equipment, and assisting with setup or takedown for programs and events
  • Support larger maintenance projects as needed, working independently or as part of a team
  • Safely operate hand tools, basic power tools, and maintenance equipment, and report any issues or malfunctions promptly
  • Carry out seasonal maintenance tasks such as snow removal, salting walkways, and preparing outdoor spaces for changing weather conditions
  • Respond to maintenance needs as they arise, including tasks that may require working independently under WorkSafeBC procedures
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions while following safety guidelines and using provided personal protective equipment (PPE)

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow WorkSafeBC regulations and site-specific safety protocols to maintain a safe environment for staff, residents, and visitors
  • Adhere to organizational policies, including safety, respectful workplace, confidentiality, and emergency procedures
  • Participate in safety orientations and hazard assessments as required
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly

Independent Work

  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Identify maintenance needs proactively and communicate issues requiring escalation

Qualifications 

Education & Experience

  • Experience in maintenance, general labour, or facilities work is an asset
  • Experience working in community-based, Indigenous-serving, or nonprofit environments is an asset

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic knowledge of building, grounds, and general maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, basic power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC safety practices and commitment to following all protocols
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment
  • Reliable, professional, and respectful in all interactions

Working Conditions

  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Tasks may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to work independently, including following working-alone procedures
  • Availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays as required

Requirements

  • Valid BC driver’s licence and a current Driver’s Abstract (required for work-related driving; results reviewed for suitability)
  • Satisfactory completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
